The pagan religions teach that winter is a season of rest and rejuvenation, a time to hibernate and sleep longer so that the body and mind are ready for the new cycle when spring comes.

This is so true! Wisconsin went through the same but not nearly as longs. But 13 inches of snow and 4 days of cold temps was just too much. I am loving the 40 degree days but we need to see the sun!

Way to describe Iowa! Very much enjoyed reading this while idling on the couch, occasionally glancing at the tractor battery sitting by the front door. It was cold on the day I needed to pull the truck out of the ditch, so the tractor battery gets to live in the warm house until springtime, just in case we need to start the tractor again.

So interesting, before opening your piece here, I read an article in today's New York Times about this very topic! I find myself in the same place - for me it is definitely a spiritual or soul longing. Not just mental or physical. So we have moved to the countryside in Italy ! Just this week! And I am going to see what that brings. Keep idling!
